The modern young adult world is alive with a renewed interest in reading thanks to popular young authors. And for educators and parents everywhere, this new found interest in reading fiction books is truly heart warming. But it’s worth noting that many young adults are not reading the same style of storyline as their older parental units might have enjoyed in their youth. This time around, we see many young people embracing fiction books that deal with issues that they are themselves, trying to wrap their minds around.

Issues like sex, violence, substance abuse, and growing up in an uncertain economic climate. All of these things are issues young adult readers are looking to connect with when reading fiction books. In addition to issues being addressed, there seems to be a growing sense of loyalty with young adult readers seeking out authors which they can identify with. Perhaps due to comparable ages and experience. In other instances because the writing of specific books are presented in a palatable manner that really speaks to the younger, restless younger reader.
